Marquette University’s College of Business Administration seeks a dedicated, teaching-focused faculty member to serve as the academic director for the Commercial Banking Program. This position centers on undergraduate instruction in commercial banking and credit analysis, with a strong emphasis on applied learning and industry engagement. The successful candidate will play a critical role in maintaining and enhancing the program’s strong reputation for producing career-ready graduates with practical banking skills.
Duties and Responsibilities
This teaching-centered position carries a standard 21 credit hours per academic year, typically arranged as 3–4 or 4–3 across the fall and spring semesters. Contingent upon documented external engagement activities and programmatic needs, a workload reduction to 3–3 may be available. The primary teaching responsibilities will include courses in commercial banking, loan underwriting and credit analysis, and risk management.
The ideal candidate will incorporate case studies, simulations, and real-world banking insights into their instruction. Maintaining strong industry relationships is essential to support experiential learning opportunities, guest lectures, and career placement initiatives.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Advising and mentoring students pursuing careers in banking and financial services
- Supporting finance-related student organizations and case competitions
- Representing the program at college and industry events
- Promoting the program’s visibility and reputation at local and national levels
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Masters Degree preferred or substantial progress toward the terminal degree.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Master’s degree in finance, economics, business, or a related field (Doctorate preferred)
- Substantial professional experience in commercial banking or financial services
- Evidence of teaching excellence and/or impactful corporate training experience
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain industry partnerships and mentor students
