The Department of Otolaryngology is currently seeking a full time Post Doctoral Associate to work in Miami, FL. The Post Doctoral Scholar takes initiative and works independently in developing new research ideas and troubleshooting new assays. Further, the incumbent facilitates the training of students, residents, fellows, and other trainees.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                                     

  • Assists in planning and designing research experiments, establishes priorities, and recommends schedules.

  • Presents research findings at local and national scientific conferences.

  • Writes technical publications and reports.

  • Designs and writes programs to perform analysis and produces written reports on results.

  • Collects pilot data to help support new and competing renewal applications.

  • Supervises undergraduate and graduate research students and performs literature reviews.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Education:

MD or PhD in relevant field

Experience:

No prior experience required

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.

  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM

Department Specific Functions

  • Performing gene therapy experiments and expression analysis and auditory physiological evaluation of identified genes in inner ears in mouse models of human genetic deafness.
  • Conducting functional characterization in animal models and organoids/iPSCs of proteins encoded by human hearing loss causing genes identified by us.

Education:

PhD, MD or other doctoral level degree required

Certification and Licensing:

Experience:

Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Have graduate training or experience and background in experiences with utilizing animal models, cell line technology, and AAV or CRISPR genome editing
  • Previous work-related experience including molecular biology, gene therapy, and a background in experiences with animal sensory evaluation both in physiology and histology
